Santorini Holidays

“Europe’s most romantic destination”

Santorini, a volcanic island that rose up from the earth has since become a sanctum of blue domes, vibrant bougainvillaea, and tranquillity. On the north coast of the island, the small village of Oia is perched on the cliffs surrounding the crater. Just before night falls and the village becomes awash with specks of light cascading down the cliff, the sky cradles this spectacular village in a cloak of oranges and pinks as the sun sets into the Aegean sea. With rows of immaculate white houses, intimate restaurants, and charming beaches Santorini has undoubtedly become one of Europe’s most romantic holiday destinations.

Prior to departure, you will receive a bespoke itinerary created by a Rich Vein Travel expert filled with advice and recommendations. Read an extract of one of our itineraries for Santorini below.

Day 1

Check into the Honeymoon suite at the Katikies hotel. After placing your complimentary welcome gifts on the table, take your time to explore this luxurious suite. Perfectly decorated with exquisite contemporary and classical Aegean details this suite blends ceremony with simple elegance. Step outside on your private veranda to admire the private sun deck, dining area and two-person Jacuzzi, which lay just ahead of spectacular views of the caldera. After freshening up, exit the hotel and walk down the footpath towards the centre of Oia. Tonight will be your first time witnessing Oia’s incredible sunset. The ten minute walk to the centre of Oia feels effortless as the temperature begins to fall. As you admire the white walls, winding paths, and blue domes, keep an eye out your tonight’s restaurant. It’s called Kastro and offers sensational views of the sunset all year round away from the crowds that line the streets for photo’s. Following a dinner of grilled meats, Greek salad and beautiful local wine explore Oia at night. And watch the town glisten in the dark as the ocean shimmers with every wave that hits the cliffs. Use the footpath to make your way back to Katikies and have an early night to prepare yourself for tomorrow.

Day 2

Wake up bright and early to champagne and an american breakfast brought your room. But with the view of the caldera outside, why not eat on your veranda? After indulging your tastebuds on beautiful champagne, fresh fruit and fluffy pancakes ready yourself for the ten kilometre hike from Oia to Fira. The journey will take you along the most scenic route in Santorini and you will come across two other famous villages along the way – Imerovigli and Firostefani. The hike provides endless photo opportunities, and the winding streets through the villages are worth exploring! Don’t worry if you think you’ve gotten lost as everyone will be happy to help and the trail is well-marked. When in Fira it’s hard not to be taken aback by the bustling town. Stop for a gyro (pronounced yee-roh), they can be found all over and are staple Greek street food. Filled with slices of meat, cool tsakziki, lettuce, tomatoes, and potatoes, this hearty lunch packs a punch. Take your time to explore the town, the shops and the markets. The one ‘must see’ in Firá is the Museum of Prehistoric Thera, with Minoan murals rescued from pre-cataclysm Akrotíri. It will not disappoint.

After a long day of walking, opt for a motorised vehicle to take you back to the Katikies. Relax, unwind and take a nap if you choose. For dinner, take advantage of one of the two restaurants that the Katikies provides on site. Maybe Mikrasia takes your fancy? This scintillating restaurant uses local ingredients, bold creativity and culinary panache to redefine classic Byzantine cuisine. Or perhaps a romantic dinner at Seltz is what you desire? Capturing a lavish selection of luscious epicurean cravings complemented by a fine collection of prestigious cuveés it is a restauarant and champagne bar that delivers on every level. Whichever you choose, with the Katikies staff on hand 24/7 you are undoubtedly in good hands.

Day 3

Have a lie in and take full advantage of the three infinity pools at the Katikies. Head to Passagio, just up from the hotel for lunch and which is arguably one of the best coffees on the island. But don’t stop for too long as your transfer to the beach departs soon. With your beach bag in tow make your way to the departure point and enjoy an afternoon of fun and the games. In the evening take the path down from Oia to the Ammoudi port then turn left and walk along the water’s edge for 5 minutes. Here you’ll find one of the best restaurants on this side of the island called the Amoudi Fish Tavern. From the Tavern you can gaze at the crystal clear blue waters of the Aegean sea, the passing cruise ships, and the evening parade of old ships sailing into and out of the port.

Day 4

For day four, would recommend that you trade the land for the seas with a sunset catamaran cruise. A minibus will pick you up at your hotel and head towards Vlychada port at the southern end of Santorini. Board the Lagoon 560, the luxurious catamaran that will take you on this sunset cruise. The catamaran will take you to some of Santorini’s hidden gems and places inaccessible by road The first stop on your 5-hour sunset cruise is the Red Beach. Enjoy the amazing views and swim and snorkel for half an hour. Next, the catamaran will sail to the White Beach, the second stop, where you’ll have 90 minutes to swim and snorkel in a quiet bay. As you relax, the crew will prepare a barbecue on board whilst providing you with Unlimited wine, ouzo, and beer. After lunch, the penultimate stop for the Lagoon 560 will be the famous hot springs that come from the bottom of the sea. The tour’s last stop is Oia where you’ll be able to watch the stunning sunset from the sea for a completely unique experience. With so many things to do in Santorini you may never want to leave this beautiful island!
