Sample Holiday Itinerary
With many flights from London arriving in the afternoon, you’ll have several hours of daylight left to fully explore your surroundings. Check in at the Twelve Apostles, and make yourself at home in your elegantly appointed room or suite.
Make full use of the complimentary hotel shuttle service. The hotel offers a complimentary scheduled transfer via Camps Bay, to and from the V&A Waterfront from 8:00 until 21:30. This service is available on the hour, every hour. For your first afternoon in Cape Town, we recommend the V&A Waterfront – one of South Africa’s most visited tourist destinations. Although this iconic attraction is situated in South Africa’s oldest working harbour, today, the V&A Waterfront is most famous for being a premier shopping destination. The V&A Waterfront is divided up into five shopping districts: Victoria Wharf, the Watershed, The Alfred Mall and Pierhead, The Clock Tower, and Breakwater Point. From big brands to local merchants you’ll find everything that you could imagine and more. After an afternoon spent shopping and exploring, why not stop for a delicious late lunch? The majority of the restaurants at the V&A Waterfront have excellent views of the harbour. If you are after something a little more relaxed, head over to the V&A Food Market where you’ll find regional delicacies and craft beers.
The V&A Waterfront is also home to a range of attractions that will appeal to children and teenagers too. Providing they’re not afraid of heights, children and teenagers will love the Cape Wheel! The Cape Wheel is a giant wheel that offers a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view of Cape Town. They can run around and play in Battery Park which includes a family-friendly jungle gym, swings and a scooter path. Kids may also enjoy spending time at the Two Ocean’s Aquarium which is home to many species of fish and other marine life.
In the evening, return to the Twelve Apostles, and unwind. Watch the sun go down with your favourite tipple at the Leopard Bar, as you reflect on your first day in Cape Town. Later on, head to The Café Grill restaurant located in the hotel. This al fresco eaterie offers a casual and relaxed dining experience and enjoys fabulous sweeping views of the mountain range.
Enjoy a delicious complimentary breakfast before heading out to explore more of Cape Town on day 2. Pack a day bag, and use the shuttle service to go to Camps Bay this time. The beautiful enclave of Camps Bay is famous for its sandy beaches and hiking trails. Take a mid-morning walk along the Pipe Track, which starts at the top of Kloof Nek. Then in the afternoon, as a reward, hire some deck chairs and an umbrella to bask in the sunshine. Enjoy a seafood lunch, with stunning views at Mantra Cafe, a chic restaurant and bar in Camps Bay. From grilled calamari to creamy seafood pasta, to Saldanha mussels – the vast array of dishes means that you’ll be spoilt for choice.
Check the wind and weather forecast for the remainder of the afternoon. Should the weather be agreeable, find a taxi and head to the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway. The best views of Cape Town can be seen from the top of Table Mountain. The Cableway takes you to the summit in under 5 minutes and the cable car’s rotating floor ensures all visitors get a 360-degree aerial view of the city. For a fast and convenient way to experience the Cableway, buy your tickets online before you arrive. However, on busy days you may still need to queue. As the cableway can often be closed due to the weather, it’s often best to book on the day, shortly before you arrive, or buy your tickets upon arrival.
Take a taxi back to the 5* Twelve Apostles Hotel for an evening of wining and dining in the award-winning Azure Restaurant, followed by a film screening in the private cinema.
On day 3, travel beyond Cape Town city centre, as you pursue your passions. If you’re a wine lover, your love affair with Cape Town may have begun many moons ago. South African wine has a history dating back to 1659. Cape Town’s Mediterranean climate, with its rainy winters and long, dry summers, provide the perfect growing conditions for grapes. Offering an irresistible combination of delectable wine tastings, winemaking tours and magnificent scenery, Cape Town’s wine routes attract wine lovers from all over the world.
The Constantia Valley wine route is the oldest wine producing region in the Southern Hemisphere – with an uninterrupted history of winemaking since 1685. Comprising 10 wine farms, famous for their cool climate wines, here visitors have a choice of a vast range of experiences, including wine tastings throughout the year, as well as picnics, live music and festivals during the summer months. Stellenbosch is South Africa’s oldest town after Cape Town – and one of the most scenic and historically intact. Situated about 50 kilometres (31 miles) east of Cape Town, Stellenbosch is renowned for being a hub for world-class culinary experiences. It is the perfect romantic setting.
However, if you’re travelling with children, kids will feel right at home at The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, thanks to a range of in-house amenities and activities aimed specifically at little ones. From mountain climbs, museum visits and trips to Boulder’s Beach with African penguins, Cape Town is a fantastic holiday destination for children and families. Children can also have fun splashing in our infinity or mountain pools, with pool toys provided during the summer holidays. A visit to Butterfly World Tropical Garden is a must for children who love nature.
Explore your passions, and discover some of Cape Town’s most stunning fauna and flora on day 3.
