Palma de Mallorca Holidays

“Vibrant, colourful and rich in history”

Vibrant, colourful, and rich in history, Palma is perfect for a sunny city break. Palma takes its name from Palmeria, the town that was founded by the Romans in 120 BC. Since then, it has been conquered, reconquered, and even became a nationalist stronghold during the Spanish Civil War. In more modern times, Palma has grown to become one of the most popular destinations in Spain. From the breathtaking Gothic Cathedral to the vibrant neighbourhoods and beaches, it’s hard not to fall in love with the city and its history.

Es Princep

Imagine a place where the past and the present coexist in perfect harmony. A five-star property which draws on the past for inspiration, and reinvents the meaning of luxury living. With an enviable location above the ancient city walls, the five-star Es Princep Hotel is just that. Newly opened in 2018, this hotel is located in the charming Calatrava neighbourhood near Palma’s old town. Here you will experience the very best of Palma. Es Princep exudes warmth and understated luxury for guests who appreciate the finer details. Inside outside, and the rooftop top terrace, Es Princep seamlessly bridges Palma’s history with the refinements of modern hospitality for a home-away-from-home experience. This luxury hotel is the only choice for a city break in Palma.

Hotel Es Princep takes its name from the Prince who oversaw the construction of the extraordinary wall that sits outside of the hotel – the Baluard del Princep. Privately owned by a Mallorcan family, their intention is to introduce guests to the unique Mallorcan lifestyle – relaxed, cosmopolitan and vibrant. All 68 rooms and suites have been designed by Duch-Pizá to create an airy, relaxed atmosphere. The elegant and tastefully decorated rooms are complete with contemporary art, dark wood furniture and flooring, and taupe-hued sofas.

The individual elements within each room and suite highlight the significant degree of attention to detail. The box-spring beds with fine Egyptian cotton bed linen by Barcelona’s Casa Bassols are incredibly comfortable. Small, round metal tables match the copper-coloured lamps. Whilst the armchairs are by Capdell, a Valencia-based design company which is renowned for its innovatively designed contemporary chairs and furniture. Amenities such as turndown service, Nespresso machine, kettles, or a pillow menu are standard, as are fast Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity to the speakers in the room. The large flat screen TV’s are also adjustable with swinging arms. Private bathrooms with showers feature rainfall showerheads. High-quality cosmetics add an additional touch of luxury in the glass-heavy, transparent bathroom. Es Princep exclusively uses Le Labo products in the rooms and suites.

Despite being a boutique hotel, Es Princep boasts 3 fantastic restaurants and bars. The Bala Roja restaurant is led by chef Felipe Moreno whose inspired dishes showcase his innovative spirit and creativity. Cocktail bar Gremium is famous for its extensive range of new, and classic cocktails crafted by master mixologists. But the pièce de résistance is the open-air Almaq restaurant located on the roof. On the other side of the 800-metre square terrace is the ultimate sun-trap. The Es Princep rooftop lounge is where you will be able to enjoy an incomparable view of the sea, an air-conditioned swimming pool and comfortable sun loungers. Guests may also enjoy the public Ca’n Pere Antoni beach merely minutes away from the hotel.

For rest and relaxation, you may choose to relax at the full-service spa, with massages, body treatments, and facials. Es Príncep’s Cocô Spa is a tranquil haven for those looking to unwind after days spent exploring the beauty of Palma. Boasting, several treatment rooms, an 18-metre swimming pool, sauna, Turkish bath and whirlpool, you could spend hours in this serene setting. The team of well-being professionals use the highest quality natural products and you will leave the spa feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Day 1

As you arrive at Palma de Mallorca airport, you’ll be met by your driver to transport you to Es Princep. The beauty of travelling to Palma from the UK is that the total travel time is just over two hours. The short flight will fly by in no time, and the 10-minute car journey to the hotel will be a great way for you to begin to familiarise yourself with the city. Upon arrival at your hotel, you will be greeted by a friendly doorman to take your bags and be offered a welcome drink of your choice. We recommend the champagne. After a swift check-in, a member of the team will show you to your room or suite. If you’re staying in the Deluxe sea-view room, you will find a complimentary bottle of champagne on the copper table, alongside some local delights to tantalise your tastebuds. Make yourself at home. Swing open the french doors to your private balcony. Unpack your suitcase. Then head out to explore the city.

With an afternoon flight and a +1 hour time difference, if you’re travelling in the summer you’ll be able to enjoy the city whilst it’s bathed in the glow of the golden hour. This could also be a perfect time to take some photos. As you exit the hotel, take a right and another right, and you’ll immediately be immersed in the charming streets of Calatrava. Wander through the streets and become enamoured with the chatter of the people in the streets and the bars. Whether you’re travelling solo, in a couple, or in a group, Palma is an incredibly safe city, so there’s no need to worry about getting lost, or wandering into a “bad” part of town.

In the evening return to Es Princep for dinner and drinks at Almaq. Expect a lively electric atmosphere on an evening. The menu is split into fun sections which exemplify the free-spirited nature of the restaurant. The “Fresh and Green” section features salads, buddha bowls, and standouts like the sea bream ceviche with roasted pineapple and pepper aguachile. The “Happy Together” section is where you will find your usual tapas-style favourites, but elevated with international influences. One example of this is the mellow suckling pick with orange choucroute bao. If you’re in the mood for something more substantial, the main course menu called “Always” has several typical favourites such as the Arroz del dia (rice of the day), beef sirloin, and turbot – at the time of writing.

Day 2

Start day two with a delicious breakfast at the hotel. Then explore some of Palma’s most famous attractions. Palma is an extremely walkable city, so the whole city can easily be explored on foot. However, it’s also possible to use the bikes at Es Princep, or book a Segway tour of the city privately. We can book this for you ahead of the trip on any day of your choice. Approximately 10 minutes away from the hotel is Palma’s landmark La Seu Cathedral (Palma Cathedral) so this should be your first stop. The cathedral was built during Jaime II’s reign, on the walls that surrounded Palma’s old town. Built from the best Mallorcan sandstone, this magnificent Cathedral dominates the bay of Palma. Head up the steps near the Cathedral to explore the old town further.

For lunch, we highly recommend visiting one of the many local authentic bakeries for an ensaimada with coffee. The coffee is optional. Ensaimada is the most famous pastry from Mallorca and its origins that can be traced back to the 17th century when it was made for parties and celebrations. Originally, ensaimadas were just sweet bread sprinkled with sugar. But in the past century, they have also begun to be filled with cream, pumpkin jam and almond nougat. The spiral shape of these authentic delights makes them instantly recognisable. So sit back, relax, and tuck in.

If you love shopping you absolutely must take a stroll along the Borne. The tree-lined street that has become known as the ‘Golden Mile’. All of the designer stores can be found here from Louis Vuitton and Hugo Boss to Breitling and Mulberry. This is the place to be.

In the evening, head to the Cocô Spa Oasis for a relaxing spa treatment, for one, or for two. Coco’s experienced beauty therapists have got you covered from head to toe by offering all the wellness and beauty treatments you could possibly wish for. This fantastic spa also has several treatments exclusively designed for men. The deep tissue massage is designed to alleviate deep-seated tension and muscle stress. The salt and oil body scrub is deeply exfoliating, and the therapists use natural materials such as peppermint and lemongrass with pure mineral salts. Whilst the “gents hand tidy”, and “gents feet tidy” are essentially the men’s equivalent to a women’s manicure or pedicure. So whatever takes your fancy, the extensive range of options will certainly appeal to everyone.

Feeling relaxed and refreshed, freshen up before making your way to dinner at Bala Roja. There are two tasting menu’s to choose from at dinner. The ever-changing menu is a sensory delight, and it’s the perfect way to end your second day in Palma.

The cosy L’Arcada restaurant, on the other hand, specialises in Italian cuisine, with fresh authentic pizzas prepared in the restaurant’s wood-burning oven. Day 1

Arriving at Pure Salt Garonda is very straightforward. From the airport, you can rent a car, hop in a taxi, or enjoy a private transfer which we can book for you in advance. The ten-minute car journey will fly by, and before you know it, you will be greeted at reception, by Silvan, or another friendly member of the team. All guests receive a welcome drink upon arrival. After a swift check-in, enjoy the luxury amenities of your room or suite, before making your way down to the Garonda restaurant for dinner. There is a set dinner each evening (three choices per course) for guests on half board as well as the choice to eat at Mikel and Pintxo or L´Arcada, the Italian restaurant. Dinner is served between 19:00 and 22:00.

After a delicious dinner, explore the strip which runs parallel to the beach. Playa de Palma is renowned for having a lively atmosphere. It attracts thousands of British and German travellers every year. Dotted along the entire stretch, as far as the eye can see, you will find an eclectic mix of bars, clubs and restaurants. We love Bonito, a casual beach concept cocktail bar. By night the building becomes a spectacular vision of lights and colour, changing every few seconds. Stand or sit, order a Margarita, and enjoy your evening as you soak up the atmosphere.

Day 2

The Pure Salt Garonda Restaurant provides a breakfast buffet service with a wide range of dishes representing local, Mediterranean flavours. Everything that you could need for breakfast can be found each morning from omelettes and pastries to glasses of fizz. If you’re fussy about your morning coffee, rest assured. There are two coffee machines in the Garonda restaurant for breakfast, which means that lattes, espressos, are just a click away. After breakfast, step out onto the rooftop terrace, and find your sun lounger for the next few hours. The comfortable roof terrace has many sun loungers to choose from, and the inviting pool in the middle is the perfect way to cool off after several hours spent in the sun. With highs of over 30 degrees Celsius in the summer, the pool is definitely needed! Freshen up in your room then head to Pure Salt Garonda’s L´Arcada Italian restaurant. This authentic Italian restaurant is renowned for its delicious antipasti, pizza and pasta.

In the afternoon if you’re keen to visit a beach club, then head to Purobeach a few kilometres away. It’s located in a mini península with 180-degree sea views. Purobeach is a beach club concept that represents the light and fresh Mediterranean lifestyle. These beach clubs can be found across Spain and Portugal in Vilamoura, Barcelona, Illetas, Marbella, and of course, Palma. Spend the remainder of the day on the comfy sunbeds.
