The Boulders Resort & Spa, Curio Collection by Hilton
The Boulders Resort has recently been ranked as the number one resort in Arizona, and the two 18-hole Jay Morrish-designed golf courses were added to Golf Digest’s Editors’ Choice list in 2019. Such recognition is a testament to the fantastic facilities, stellar services, and carefully curated atmosphere that has been created at the resort.
At the Boulders Resort, dramatic Spanish-influenced adobe-style architecture blends effortlessly with the Arizona desert outside. This is apparent throughout the resort which exudes the look and feel of an exclusive Southwest-style lodge. Native American colour schemes and patterns create a rustic look and feel inside. The lobby is rugged yet refined, with an inviting fireplace, vibrant cacti, and hand-hewn wood-beamed ceiling. Such accents can be found throughout the resort. All accommodation options have stone floors, wood-beamed ceilings, stucco fireplaces, Navajo print rugs, natural stone showers and a mix of cowhide, and leather furniture.
There is a range of accommodation types at this resort, from rooms (casitas) and suites and villas and haciendas. The Southwest-style Sonoran casitas boast spectacular views of the Boulders golf course, boulder pile, and desert landscape. Whilst the Boulders casitas as standalone units offer extra privacy which could be perfect for couples. One-, two- and three-bedroom Villas and Haciendas are ideal for company groups and families. These luxury holiday homes feature private patios with grills, Isokern fireplaces, laundry rooms, bathrooms for every bedroom, and fully equipped designer kitchens.
Dining at Boulders is an all-encompassing experience. Multiple restaurants and bars boast dramatic views from patios and floor-to-ceiling windows, along with a wide variety of dishes to suit all tastes. From healthy mains and refreshing beverages to hearty bistro fare and Southwestern-inspired cuisine, there is something for everyone. Two of the standout restaurants at the resort are Palo Verde and the Spotted Donkey Cantina. Palo Verde restaurant offers panoramic Sonoran Desert views overlooking the 6th fairway. The dining experience here is simple, sophisticated and comforting, with a contemporary Southwestern-inspired menu. The Spotted Donkey Cantina, on the other hand, is quickly earning a reputation as the go-to for Mexican cuisine in North Scottsdale. Having this restaurant quite literally on your doorstep is definitely a treat.
This luxury resort is ideal for lovers of luxury in need of relaxation. The menu of services at the full-service spa is truly remarkable. Based on the idea of a Zen desert lifestyle, expect personalised service from technicians using high-quality natural ingredients and Ayurvedic principles. Choose from the Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, Ayurvedic massage, meditation tipi, and treatments inspired by desert botanicals and Native American traditions.
The highlight, however, is undoubtedly the world-class golf. Sample Holiday Itinerary
When you drive through the Sonoran Desert on your way to The Boulders Resort & Spa, you’ll know you’re in a special place. The rock formations and desert landscape offer stunning scenic vistas, unlike anything that you have ever seen before. Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by the friendly bellman who can assist you from the self-parking lot to check-in, and then onto your room or suite. Alternatively, opt for valet parking if you’re keen to save time.
Once you’re settled in, we recommend that you go out and explore the local area. Of course, there are a whole host of activities and experiences to enjoy at the resort, but there’s also lots to do in the local area too. Despite the seemingly secluded location, the Boulders Resort is near many towns in Arizona, which is perfect for those looking to uncover hidden gems. You could spend an unforgettable afternoon at Bartlett Lake and Lake Pleasant. Or take a five-minute drive to the town of Cave Creek. Perhaps you may prefer to visit the characterful town of Carefree which is famous for its seasonal cultural festivals and art shows. There are no bad choices here as the local area is incredibly diverse. Phoenix city centre is also around thirty minutes away by car, so for the hustle and bustle of a big city, you need not look any further than the capital. Did you know that Phoenix is the fifth most populous city in America?
After a fun afternoon exploring, return to the Boulders Resort to freshen up before dinner. On day 1 we recommend the Grill Restaurant & Bar. This restaurant features an exhibition kitchen, dark wood furnishings, a fireplace, and patio seating with grand views of the lush 18th hole fairways. Enjoy a wide variety of American cuisine including juicy burgers, fresh seafood, and dry-aged steaks.
The Boulders Resort is indisputably the best golf resort in Arizona. So make the most of your time at this five-star resort, by teeing off first thing in the morning. There are two championship 18-hole courses to choose from. The 6,726-yard 18-hole par-71 South Course features a 140 slope. Hole #5 has a green shaded by a dramatic rock outcropping. Other holes take golfers into the boulder formations for unique experiences. For a different challenge, tee off on the 6,811-yard North Course that has a 137 slope. This 18-hole course features a par of 72 and is considered one of the most demanding courses in the Southwest. Should you need any help, equipment or assistance, there’s a full-service shop at the resort. Here, you can hire carts and equipment and buy golf apparel amongst other things.
After a challenging morning playing golf, there’s no better way to relax than with a few hours of rest and relaxation. Enjoy lounging by the Boulders’ four crystal-blue pools – one of which is adults only. Three of the four pools also provide a food and drinks service, so you can have lunch by the pool too, meaning you never have to leave the comfort of your sun lounger.
In the evening if you’re staying in a villa or hacienda, then fire up the grill for dinner on day 2. Grill on the patio in front of the fireplace with loved ones, as you enjoy beautiful Sonoran views from the comfort of your accommodation. Alternatively, go to the Discover Lounge for shareable dishes and contemporary cocktails. This newly renovated lounge is the perfect gathering space for friends and family, with fantastic views thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows.
