Es Princep Hotel Review

Hotel Es Princep

Es Princep is a stylish boutique hotel in the heart of Palma. Opened in 2018, the five-star Es Princep Hotel is one of Palmas most exclusive luxury hotels. Situated in the charming Calatrava neighbourhood, beside the Baulard-de-Princep, this luxury hotel boasts spectacular sea views over the Bay of Palma. For a luxury holiday in Palma, look no further than this true five-star hotel.

Located just inside Palmas ancient city walls, this luxury hotel is the perfect destination for a luxury city break. In Palma, location is everything and the five-star Es Princep occupies perhaps the best location in all of Palma. The hotel can be found in the enchanting neighbourhood of Calatrava. Calatrava is famous for its authentic local charm with its laid-back cafe culture, quaint restaurants and palm-tree filled squares. By booking a stay at Es Princep, you’ll also be just less than 10 minutes away from Palma airport by car, and less than ten minutes away from Palma Cathedral by foot. The latter is Palmas most famous attraction. Beyond the city walls, it will be impossible to miss the breathtaking ocean views from this hotel. This sea-facing property is minutes away from Ca’n Pere Antoni Beach. The public beach attracts locals and tourists who seek a spot of sun-bathing, on a beautiful natural beach.

Services and Facilities

Before arrival, all guests receive a guest preference email to confirm the arrival time, room arrangements, transfer arrangements, and to check whether any reservations are required. This email is a fantastic way to inform the hotel of any special requests. The exceptionally well-dressed staff are delightful personalities who are highly committed and motivated. All of the usual amenities that you would expect in a five-star hotel can be found such as:

  • Private parking (reservation is needed)
  • Three restaurants and bars
  • Laundry
  • Pool
  • Sauna and spa
  • Fitness centre
  • Airport shuttle
  • Rooftop pool and terrace
  • Wi-Fi

The rooftop pool and terrace is one of the highlights of this property and is an absolute suntrap. There are more than enough sunbeds and sun loungers for guests. The hotel also provides sunscreen, magazines, and flip flops for use on the terrace should you forget your own in your room. As you would expect in a five-star hotel, fluffy towels are provided. The divine swimming pool has a built-in bench so can you sit in the pool as the sun beams down from the sky. Immaculate staff in pristine uniforms bring ice-cold bottles of water on silver trays with led-crystal tumblers and delicious cocktails with bar snacks. Views of the ocean combined with the lapping water of the pool create a feeling unlike any other.

This modern hotel has 68 impeccable minimalist rooms designed in the signature style of architect firm Duch-Pizà . The modern minimalism and clean lines of each room are incredibly easy on the eye. The tastefully decorated rooms are complete with contemporary art, dark wood furniture and flooring, and taupe-hued sofas.

All rooms and suites include free Wi-Fi, a Nespresso machine, minibar, air conditioning, flat-screen TV and an en suite bathroom. Coffee capsules, fruit teas, and luxury toiletries are also included and replenished daily. Across all rooms and suites, the floor-to-ceiling windows allow sunlight to radiate through each room and suite. They flood the space with light, and allow for magnificent views of the sea, city walls, or the old town. Several rooms have quaint balconies which lure guests out to enjoy their morning coffee in the open air, as the suns glow illuminates the world beneath.

The entry-level standard rooms are cosy 22 sq m rooms on the lower floors of the hotel with views of a charming little lane. The Junior sea-view suites are noticeably bigger at 35 sq m. These suites are located on upper levels of the building and are flooded with natural light. They not only overlook the historical city walls but also offer panoramic sea views that will simply take your breath away. The hotels most luxurious offerings are the Signature Sea View Suites. These expansive 55 sq m suites offer views over the sparkling bay of Palma.

However, the small details within the rooms are just as memorable as the size and the views. Every bathroom has underfloor heating which is ideal during the winter when the nights can become slightly cooler. The private bathrooms all feature rainfall showerheads. High-quality cosmetics add an additional touch of luxury. Es Princep exclusively uses Le Labo products in the rooms and suites. This exclusive luxury perfume brand based in New York City is a firm favourite amongst A-listers and discerning luxury travellers. Santal 33, the range in use, is a Le Labo cult classic. Smoky cedarwood and rich leather are infused with sweeter doses of violet and iris to create a unique scent.

Most hotel rooms now include a complicated array of switches and buttons, which make it impossible to turn off the lights at night. But here, one master switch can be used. There are also plug sockets beside the bedhead. This may seem like an inconsequential detail, however, countless hotels can get this wrong. The touch screen pad beside the door is an effective, yet discreet way to demonstrate to the cleaners whether you would like the room cleaned ahead of time, or whether you would prefer some privacy.

The selection of channels on the flat-screen smart TV is vast and expansive. BBC 1, BBC 2, ITV1 and IVT2, and the UK news channels can be found here. This means that you’ll never need to miss your favourite shows, or sporting events.

Food and Drink

Despite being a boutique hotel, Es Princep boasts three fantastic restaurants and bars. Such variety is highly unusual for a boutique hotel, but this reiterates the uniqueness of this five-star property. Es Princeps most talked about attraction is Bala Roja Restaurant. Bala Roja translates to red bullet and refers to the iron cannonballs which were heated in a coal-fired furnace and fired from the adjacent Baluard del Príncep. There are two menus for dinner, the Bala Roja menu, and the Es Princep menu. During the lunch service, there is an executive menu. This fine-dining restaurant regularly changes its menu.

Nothing says luxury city break like sipping on flawlessly executed cocktails while enjoying a laid back vibe and sumptuous surroundings to match. So for delicious cocktails, look no further than the Gremium bar with master mixologists full of creative flair to concoct new cocktails. Located on the same floor as Bala Roja, you can start your evening, or end your evening at Gremium. The relaxed atmosphere of the bar is also ideal if you need a nightcap.

The open-air Almaq restaurant located on the roof is the third and final option. When you’re not feasting on Almaqs small bites or international favourites, you can take in the views of the sea and cityscape, as you indulge in cocktails and sip crisp rose wine. Throughout the year, Almaq also hosts various speciality nights such as a Vermouth and Music night, Llonguets & Sunset and a live DJ on Saturday evenings.
