The Maldives is a dream honeymoon destination. With all-inclusive resorts and private beaches, it ticks all of the boxes for a relaxing honeymoon abroad. But according to new analysis, it has been pipped to the post by Mexico as the number one honeymoon destination. New analysis of celebrity honeymoons over the last twenty years, has revealed the world’s best honeymoon destinations.
In the analysis conducted by Rich Vein Travel, Mexico tops the list with ten celebrity couples spending their honeymoons in the country. From Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, to Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, to Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder, Mexico has been a firm favourite over the past two decades. One resort is especially popular – the One&Only Palmilla Resort in Las Cabos, Mexico. In 2009 the resort welcomed Kevin Jonas and Danielle Deleasa. In 2010 both Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom and Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie, spent their honeymoons at this ocean-fronted five-star property.
In second place is French Polynesia. Eight celebrity couples chose French Polynesia for their romantic honeymoons. Actor Sara Rue and husband Kevin Price split their time between the Conrad Bora Bora Nui Resort and the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort. Whilst Alyssa Milano and David Bugliari opted for The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort. However, one resort, in particular, has become synonymous with French Polynesia in recent years. The Brando Resort, located on Marlon Brando’s atoll Tetiaroa, is where Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley, and Pippa Middleton and James Matthews spent their honeymoons. With the latter extending their honeymoon by embarking on a luxury trip around Australia.
The Maldives, Italy, and the USA are the remaining three honeymoon destinations which make up the top five. Reality TV stars Alex and Olivia Buckland, Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan, and Rochelle and Marvin Humes, have all recently honeymooned in the Maldives. Kandima Maldives was the dream resort for Rochelle and Marvin (also the resort where Katie Price and Kieran Hayler stayed in 2017 during their second honeymoon). Whilst Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan, chose the equally impressive Maafushivaru resort for their romantic stay in the Maldives, prior to flying to Dubai for the second part of their honeymoon.
Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth, and John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, all spent their respective honeymoons in Italy. Italy was the only European country to make the top five.
However, Beyoncé and Jay Z, Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman, chose to remain in the USA for their honeymoons. Considering the size and diversity of the USA, staying in the country still provides a whole host of options and experiences. Arizona’s Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort & Spa is where Beyoncé and Jay Z stayed, for Cameron Diaz it was the Shooting Star Jackson Hole Resort, and for Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman, the Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur California was a perfect choice.
After having a secret wedding to producer Sebastian Bear-McClard in February 2018, model Emily Ratajkowski and her husband chose the very “Instagrammable” Amangiri – a remote hideaway in Canyon Point, Utah. Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green traded the desert for beaches with a luxury honeymoon in Hawaii at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai. They were the only couple to choose Hawaii as their honeymoon destination.
